Gendarmerie in Turkey to be subordinate to Interior Ministry
Gendarmerie in Turkey will be withdrawn from the subordination of the country
The decision has been made in accordance with several paragraphs of the package of reforms aimed at ensuring the security of the country’s population.

Under the paragraphs adopted by Turkish parliament, the gendarmerie will be subordinate to the country’s Interior Ministry.

The paragraphs of the package of reforms will enter into force after being ratified by Turkish president.

Previously, the country’s Grand National Assembly (parliament) adopted 57 paragraphs of the entire package of reforms aimed at ensuring the population’s security.

In accordance with the several adopted paragraphs, Turkish police got the right to detain those suspected of selling and using drugs for 48 hours. Moreover, the use of Molotov cocktails in protest actions is banned according to the package of reforms for security.

Turkish opposition parties have already protested the new package of reforms accusing the government of turning the country into a police state.

The announcement about carrying out some reforms for ensuring the population’s security was made by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in October 2014, in the midst of the protests by the supporters of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in some southeastern provinces of the country.
