European Commissioner: "TAP is reality"
The European Union is working on supply and storage of natural gas liquefied for reduction of dependence on Russian energy carriers, as well as construction of new gas pipelines, said the EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete at the meeting on construction of Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in Madrid.
“TAP is reality. The environmental problems in Greece and Italy have already been solved, relevant permissions have been obtained… Diversification of routes and suppliers should be priority of the new Energy Union”, he said.

The commissioner noted that 6 of 28 EU countries fully depend on Russian gas.

It was noted at the meeting that the EU intends to closely cooperate with Algeria, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, as well as African and Middle East countries.

“Along with this, we’ll eliminate the obstacles in the supply of LNG from the US and other countries”, Canete said.
