1,700 prisoners released as part of amnesty
The Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan keeps on implementing the Act on Amnesty signed in connection with Heydar Aliyev`s 90th anniversary on 7 May 2013.
A total of 1,700 prisoners have been released from jails of the Penal Service so far, a source in the Justice Ministry Press Office said.

“The amnesty applies to 5,800 prisoners. A total of 1,700 of them have been released. The sentence of 114 prisoners has been reduced by six months. Over 4,000 prisoners have been freed from punishment in the form of fines, correctional and public works,” a source said.

The Amnesty Act was presented to the parliament by First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.
