Magnitude 6.0 quake strikes Papua New Guinea at depth of 10 km: USGS

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Papua New Guinea early on Monday at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake came a week after one of magnitude 7.5 caused landslides, damaged buildings and closed oil and gas operations. Papua New Guinea declared a state of emergency last week. There have been several aftershocks

Agencies have said nearly 150,000 people remain in urgent need of emergency supplies following that quake as damaged roads and landslides hampered the delivery of aid to isolated communities.
