Trump called Anton on Sunday to thank him for his service, multiple reports quoting US officials said Sunday.
He reportedly voiced personal regard for Anton, who is expected to join Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center as a writer and lecturer.
Just recently, national security adviser H.R. McMaster resigned from his post.
"Trump, alone among candidates for high office in this or in the last seven (at least) cycles, has stood up to say: I want to live. I want my party to live. I want my country to live. I want my people to live. I want to end the insanity," Anton wrote in an essay for the 2016 campaign.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also mentioned him after reports emerged of his departure.
“Michael is one of the smartest and most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with — not to mention an amazing chef,” she said in a statement.
The White House has recently seen a serious shake-up with McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson gone.
The long list of dismissals and resignations in the Trump administration reveals the chaotic play of power inside the White House, run by a former celebrity businessman.
