The president made the remarks at an official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku on May 28. 

‘We connected the seas with oil and gas pipelines. The Caspian Sea connected with the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea for the first time. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, Baku-Supsa oil pipelines have been constructed. Azerbaijan is a significant country in terms of energy. Tomorrow, the Southern Gas Corridor will be launched and this is our historic victory’, he said.  

President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan’s natural gas resources will be sufficient for us and our partners for more 100 years: ‘However, we must look ahead’.

‘Work done on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict during recent years enhanced the legal base for settlement of the conflict. UN SC four resolutions, OSCE decisions are the ground for this legal base’, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks at an official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku on May 28. 

The head of state noted that other international organizations have also been making similar decisions and resolutions since 2003. Among them are Non-Aligned Movement, PACE, European Parliament, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), GUAM, ECO and others: ‘This means creation of legal base for settlement of the conflict. We have also created an economic ground for settlement of the conflict, formed a strong army. As a result of complex measures, Azerbaijan has provided political and diplomatic supremacy. Therefore, no country recognized Nagorno Karabakh regime despite Armenia’s efforts.  

We know that norms of the international law are violated in many cases. Factor of power prevails and this is reality. Therefore, support by world community to our position on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is our achievement. We managed to build a strong state. We are respected. In such a condition, no country can establish relations with an illegal regime and we won’t allow for building of the second Armenian state in our lands. Only way for Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity’.

Possibility of influencing Azerbaijan’s policy from outside is equal to zero, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev during the official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).

The head of state noted that after 2003, Azerbaijan’s dynamic development was ensured.

“We managed to build a strong and powerful state. Currently, Azerbaijan is in full sense of this word is a country pursuing independent policy. Today, such countries are not so many on the world map. In particular, it we look at the countries with not so large territory and population, we will see that there are not so many countries able to pursue independent policy. We conduct a fully independent policy. Our policy has been built on the basis of national interests. The interests of the Azerbaijani people are the source of our policy and its basis. The possibility of influencing our policy from outside is equal to zero. The recent history has shown this. At present, I can say that there are no such attempts, because we pursue a principled policy. This policy is supported and protected by the Azerbaijani people. The unity of the people and government is the main reason of our success,” said President Aliyev.

“Today Azerbaijan has strengthened its position in the international arena and has become a country with high reputation in the international arena,” the president added.

"The number of countries cooperating with us is growing,” he said. “We have twice chaired the UN Security Council, which is the most influential structure of the world. Next year we will chair the Non-Aligned Movement, the second biggest organization after the United Nations."

“We work very closely with all other leading international organizations,” President Aliyev said. “Azerbaijan is a member of some organizations and carries out activity with some organizations within cooperation. The world community treats Azerbaijan with great respect and great sympathy. Today Azerbaijan holds a very strong place on the political map of the world.”

“Economic independence of our country is ensured, economy has increased 3.2 times in recent years. Large currency reserves have been created. This is also proved by international ratings,” said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state said that according to the report of the Davos Economic Forum, Azerbaijan ranks 35th in the world for economic competitiveness.

“Moreover, the work done, infrastructure projects carried out in Azerbaijan once again prove that natural resources of our country have become a human capital. Seas were connected thanks to the launch of huge oil pipelines on the initiative of Azerbaijan, and continents were united with the establishment of transport infrastructure. Steps were taken for the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor, and creation of the North-South transport corridor. Thus, the long-term development strategy of our country has been provided,” the president noted.

Today, Azerbaijan pursues an independent policy based on national interests, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks at an official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku on May 28. 

The head of state said that the interests of the Azerbaijani people are the source of the country’s policy and the successes achieved in the country are based on the unity between the people and government.

President Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s international reputation and position have been further strengthened.  

The head of state underlined the importance of the decisions taken by international organizations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He added that that Azerbaijani will never allow the creation of a second Armenian state in its historical lands.

Today, the Azerbaijani army is among the world’s 50 strongest armies, President Aliyev stressed.

“We have proved that on the battlefield. The glorious victory of the Azerbaijani army on the contact line of troops in April 2016 once again shows that a powerful army is a guarantee of independence,” he added.

Azerbaijani people can be proud of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which was the first democratic republic of the Muslim world, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said, AzVision.az reports.

President Ilham Aliyev made remarks at the official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).

“We witnessed the construction of the Monument in honor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic many years ago. Within 23 months of its existence, the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic achieved to create a state flag, establish the National Army, Baku State University, adopt 230 laws and gave women the right to vote. The fall of the ADR is one of the greatest tragedies of our nation. If the ADR did not collapse, Azerbaijan would be one of the richest countries in the world.

Clearly, protecting the independence is more difficult than achieving it. The erection of the national flag by national leader Heydar Aliyev in Nakhchivan in 1990 was a historic event", Ilham Aliyev added.
