Persons illegally obtaining information containing state secret to be sentenced to up to 5-year imprisonment in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has issued an order on application of law “On amendments to Criminal Code” dated to March 6, 2015.

APA reports according to amendments, the words “from two up to five years” in the sanction of the article #284.1 of the law have been replaced by the words “from three up to six years”, the words in the sanction of the article #284.2 “from three up to seven years” have been replaced by the “from four up to eight years”.

At the same time, an article #284-1 has been annexed to the law in the following context:

“Article 284-1. Illegally obtaining information containing state secret

Illegally obtaining of the data making state secret, documents containing state secret, as well as things that data about them make state secret forcibly or by threatening and other coercion means, plundering, deception, or using special or other technical devices designed for illegally obtaining of confidential information is punished by imprisonment for the term from two up to five years in case of absence of treason or espionage.
