Noting that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperating with the OSCE and its institutions, Muradova said that Azerbaijan has remained committed to its obligations since joining the organization, the Parliament told APA.
She said the fact that the OSCE PA’s 23rd annual session was held in Baku past month proved how important Azerbaijan is for this organization.
“The decisions and conclusions reached during that session call for expansion of cooperation as well,” she said.
Speaking about Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the ODIHR, the vice president of the parliament said the past period became known for a serious polemic over the monitoring of elections. Bahar Muradova noted that she has participated in and witnessed the tensest discussions on the OSCE PA monitoring of elections in different countries since 2005.
At the meeting, it was noted that this year is an election year in Azerbaijan and the serious preparation for this important political process is underway. During the election, confidence was expressed that the ODIHR will conduct objective monitoring. Muradova mentioned that Azerbaijan leans on democratic values during the election process: “Azerbaijan’s legislation and practice show that the upcoming elections will be held at a high level."
Michael Link emphasized that it is his first visit to Azerbaijan as a Director. He mentioned that it is necessary to follow the laws and principles prior to starting a job. “As in my previous visits, I first express my support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. I try to apply this approach to my present mandate – the ODIHR that I directs.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
