Egypt forbids politics during Hajj

Egypt’s Religious Endowments Minister Mohamed Gomaa on Sunday warned imams accompanying the country’s official Hajj mission against talking about politics during the ritual in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to reporters, Gomaa said the main mission of the official mission is to serve pilgrims and represent Egypt, without talking about politics.

He also urged imams not to answer any question related to politics or engage in any religious debate with delegations from other countries during the Hajj pilgrimage, which will start later this month.

Around 78,000 Egyptian pilgrims are performing Hajj this year.
