Iran tests new air defense system

The new missile system, which was showcased during the Army Day parade in Tehran on April 18, was developed last year, Esmaeili said.

Talash missile system with medium range is capable of being synchronized with the country’s existing ground-to-air systems.

Iranian officials already said that the missile system would enable Iranian forces to shoot down any hostile target, even at high altitudes.

Esmaeili said that the system was tested successfully at “upper intermediate” altitude, Iran ’s official IRNA news agency reported April 28. The system will be tested at very high altitude next year, he underlined.

Tehran regularly announces military advances that cannot be independently verified. Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes.
